Most-asked Cyprus law questions

The questions clients raise most often — each answered up front, with the full guide on its own page.

What is a yellow slip in Cyprus?

A yellow slip (MEU1 registration certificate) is the residence document EU/EEA nationals receive when they register to live in Cyprus for more than three months. It is issued by the Civil Registry & Migration Department (CRMD) under the Aliens & Immigration Law (Cap. 105) and confirms your right to reside.

How long does Cyprus permanent residency take?

Cyprus permanent residency takes about 2 months under the fast-track route (Regulation 6(2)) from a complete application, or 12–18 months via the regular EU/Category F route. Timelines depend on CRMD caseload and whether your file is complete.

What is the Cyprus 60-day tax residency rule?

Under the 60-day rule you are a Cyprus tax resident if you spend at least 60 days in Cyprus in the tax year, do not spend more than 183 days in any other single country, and maintain a Cyprus tie — a permanent home plus business or employment. Following the 2026 tax reform the previous not-tax-resident-elsewhere condition no longer applies.

How do I make a will in Cyprus?

You make a Cyprus will in writing, signed in front of two witnesses who sign in your presence, under the Wills and Succession Law (Cap. 195). Cyprus applies forced-heirship rules that reserve a statutory portion for a spouse and children, so a lawyer-drafted will helps it stand up to challenge.
