How much does it cost to make a will in Cyprus?
Under the Wills and Succession Law (Cap. 195), a valid Cyprus will must meet strict execution formalities. In practice, a lawyer's fee for drafting a simple Cyprus will typically ranges from a few hundred euros up to around €500 or more, plus 19% VAT, depending on the estate's complexity. Depositing the will with the District Court Probate Registry is optional. All figures are indicative.

What determines the cost of making a will in Cyprus?
Under Cap. 195, a valid will must meet formalities — signature at the foot, two witnesses, each page initialled. A simple, single-jurisdiction will costs less to draft than one needing a cross-border choice-of-law clause under EU Regulation 650/2012. The number of assets, the complexity of the estate, and the care needed to work within Cyprus forced-heirship rules all affect a lawyer's time and therefore the indicative fee.
Lawyer's fee versus the court deposit
There are two separate costs. The lawyer's professional fee — indicatively a few hundred euros upward, plus 19% VAT — covers drafting and advice. Lodging the will with the Probate Registry of the District Court is an optional, separate step; the 1955 Deposit Rules set no specific fee for the deposit itself, though administrative costs may apply. Some firms quote a single bundled figure covering both.
Why use a qualified Cyprus lawyer?
An execution error can void the whole will, so the modest cost of a properly drafted will is worth it. A Cyprus advocate ensures the formalities are met, structures the disposable portion correctly under the forced-heirship rules, and can add a Brussels IV clause so an expat can elect their national law. Cyprus has no inheritance tax, but other costs such as land-transfer fees on inherited property still need planning.
